South Granville Seniors’ Centre to host “pocket markets”
From the end of June through mid-September 2010, the South Granville Seniors’ Centre, 1420 West 12th Avenue, will host “pocket markets”. These small, temporary markets support local farmers, increase access to healthy food and strengthen the community food system, and in particular support seniors who may have trouble accessing nutritious food. The fruits and vegetables are purchased from west side farmers and the markets themselves will be run by volunteer members of the Westside Food Security Collaborative. Vouchers will be available to low income seniors through west side social service agencies. The pocket markets are offered with the support of the Westside Food Security Collaborative and funding is provided by United Way.
All South Granville Seniors’ Centre Pocket Markets are on Fridays from 10am to 12pm.
