Buddy Rocks the Stanley!

Make no mistake, Buddy is a must see event.

I remember hearing Buddy Holly tunes on my grey, plastic transistor radio that I used to cart around as a 13 going on 20 year old teenager thinking I was the coolest chick on the planet. Something about the music made me feel like I could take on the world. Last nights performance brought it all back—in spades. The costumes were perfect, the casting was impeccable and Zachary Stevenson was amazing in the role of Buddy. The ensemble of talent on the Stanley stage is second to none. The time flew by with song after song that had you clapping or cheering or singing along (sorry about that, Clarke).

I am not a theatre critic… just a South Granville fan that has huge admiration for the Arts Club and the work they do at the Stanley. To see last nights performance in our neighbourhood, in our theatre with talent that has been masterfully directed by Bill Millerd had me bursting with pride. The Stanley Theatre is truly our beating heart.

Don’t miss the show. I am hearing reports that a number of shows are sold out already so don’t procrastinate—get your tickets… you will be singing Peggy Sue all the way home.

On a more practical note… the City of Vancouver has extended parking meter hours until 10 pm throughout the city. In all cases, you can purchase up to 4 hours of time using your cell phone with a pre-established account. To sign up for such an account, go to http://vancouver.ca/payandpurchase.htm. After 6pm, all meters south of Broadway will accept 3 hours of time that can be purchase by coin. For all private parking lots in the area, please see http://www.southgranville.org/south_granville_parking.html. Run time on the show is a generous 2.5 hours.

Enjoy the show. While you are in the neighbourhood check out our amazing restaurants. Many of them offer a pre-theatre menu.

Dinner at Cru and then “Buddy” – what a perfect night. At the end of “Buddy” the entire crowd will be on it’s feet and screaming for more – just like ours was. Zachary Stevenson (Buddy) would have been a rock star in the Buddy Holly era and may yet be in “modern times.” Even the high schoolers loved it and the “Holy S#%&” expletive when the plane crash announcement was made showed that there was even some education going on – :)) Don’t miss this show!
